Mocha cookie crumble frappuccino is a uniquely layered Starbucks drink. The trademarked frap roast is sandwiched between two layers of whipped cream

There’s also a layer of chocolate cookie crumble, blended ice, Starbucks chocolate chips, and an extra drizzle of chocolate sauce.

Homemade Mocha Cookie Crumble Frapp

Starbucks first introduced this frappuccino in 2012 and got it off the menu in 2015.

While not on the menu, customers still ordered their favorite as a secret menu item.

Luckily in the spring of 2019, Starbucks officially brought back the much-loved frappuccino on their menu.(1)

What Is In It?

The mocha cookie crumble frappuccino starts with an untypical layer of whipped cream on the bottom of the cup, followed by a chocolate cookie crumble

The main drink is the Starbucks instant blend, a Frap roast mixed with milk, ice, mocha sauce, and the Starbucks version of chocolate chips.

There’s a finishing layer of whipped cream on top and chocolate sauce. (2)

Flavor

The frappuccino has a strong chocolate taste, with noticeable cookie notes.

The crumble is finely blended so you can’t really feel a crunch or distinguish it from the ice unless the drink is melted.

You can’t really taste the coffee, but the added whipped cream at the bottom gives it extra creaminess.

Appearance

The appearance is what triggers most first-time buyers. The ‘sandwiched’ frozen drink between whipped cream looks delicious, and it’s not as common

The drink’s texture is milkshake-like and even grainy, but whipped cream makes it creamy.

The additional cookie crumble and chocolate on top makes it even more decadent.

Mocha Cookie Crumble Calories

So how much will this indulgence cost you calorie-wise? As expected, a grande frappuccino has the same amount of calories as a whole chocolate bar.

However, the Starbucks version has fewer calories compared to other brands, like Mcdonald’s mocha frappe.

Other Types Cookie Crumble Frapps

Besides the regular version, there are some delicious twists to this frappuccino that you should try. We’ve listed the best ones and how to order them.

1. White Mocha Cookie Crumble Frapp

How To Order:

Start by ordering a white chocolate mocha frappuccino and ask your barista to add frappucino chips. Besides the missing cookie crumble, the regular chocolate sauce is also swapped for white chocolate sauce.

Since the ingredients are similar, the only switch taste-wise is the white chocolate flavor. The texture is also lighter.

Ingredients:

  • White Mocha Sauce
  • Coffee Frappuccino Syrup
  • Milk
  • Ice
  • Whipped Cream
  • Frappuccino Chips

2. Caramel Cookie Crumble Frapp

For the caramel version, start by ordering a regular mocha cookie crumble. Then, ask the barista to add 2 pumps of toffee nut syrup instead of the 2 pumps of mocha.

Get whipped cream on top as per usual and swap the chocolate drizzle for a caramel drizzle.

Ingredients:

  • Mocha Sauce
  • Toffee Nut Syrup
  • Coffee Frappuccino Syrup
  • Milk
  • Ice
  • Whipped Cream
  • Caramel Drizzle
  • Frappuccino Chips

3. Oreo Cookie Crumble Frapp

How To Order:

This drink requires some DIY action on your end, as Starbucks doesn’t carry Oreos. Order a mocha frappucino and buy a small pack of Oreos, smash them and add them to the cup.

Or cut a step and get Oreo crumbs. The chocolaty Oreos merge wonderfully with the frappuccino!

Ingredients:

  • Mocha Sauce
  • Coffee Frappuccino Syrup
  • Milk
  • Ice
  • Whipped Cream
  • Oreos

Dietary Substitutions

Although mouthwatering, this frappuccino has some allergens. It’s also not compatible with a vegan, non-dairy or low-calorie diet. So we have a few suggestions below.

Steamed Milk Into Coffee

Lower Calorie

The calories in this frappuccino come from sugar and fat. Substitute the whole milk for non-fat milk to cut the calories from fat.

Swap the hot cocoa powder and use unsweetened cocoa powder. You can also get sugar-free chocolate syrup, even Hershey’s has one!

Vegan

You can make this frappuccino vegan too!

Start by substituting the whole milk for oat milk, as it’s the one closest in texture and fat. Next, use unsweetened plain cocoa powder as the hot cocoa powder might have powder milk.

Go for Hershey’s syrup which is vegan, and add vegan chocolate shaving or cacao nibs instead of cookie crumble.

More Questions

Is the Mocha Cookie Crumble good?

Our honest judgment is that yes, the mocha cookie crumble is good. It’s not grainy; it’s smooth, with a rich chocolate flavor and hints of coffee.

All parts fit through the straw, so you get a good sip. As it melts, it becomes more grainy, and you can really taste the cookie bits.

Is there coffee in the Mocha Cookie Crumble?

Yes, there is Frapp roast coffee in the mocha cookie crumble. The Frapp roast is not a type of roasted beans but an instant coffee mixture.

It’s dissolved with cold water as the frappuccinos are blended with ice, and hot coffee like an espresso won’t work. It’s made and only used commercially by Starbucks. It’s not available for purchase.

Is the Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino still available?

Yes, the mocha cookie crumble frapp was bought back as part of the regular menu at Starbucks in 2019. It was discontinued for 4 years, but the baristas could still make it as a secret menu drink.

The first time this frappuccino appeared in Starbucks history was in 2012, and it was topped with chocolate whipped cream.
